Arnica – Did you know?

Most people know that arnica is good for bruises, but did you know that it is a homeopathic remedy with many uses? I always carry it in my bag and invariably end up giving away as it is the number one first aid remedy.

Typically the patient needing arnica will have had an accident or injury, big or small, and will jump up and tell you that they are OK. They may fear being approached or touched. It is an excellent remedy for the shock and trauma, following an accident, including mental and emotional trauma and grief. When children have tumbles in the playground it helps to calm their tears, especially when they do that silent pre cry and you know that they’ve really hurt themselves. Arnica is not only good for acute trauma but also for when someone has never been well since a trauma or injury.

Arnica is especially good for treating blows to the head, black eyes and concussion. When injured, Arnica will not only help with the bruising and shock, but also any related swellings. Pain can also be eased with this remedy and it can support a person post surgery and post partum (after giving birth). It is also a good remedy to having in your pocket for after a trip to the dentist.

This remedy can be used after a hard day of physical work or a work out at the gym, where muscles may have been overworked and over strained. It can also support the fatigue associated with over-doing it. Again, another reason to use it after having a baby.

A lesser-known use, but nonetheless a big part of the arnica picture is its affinity for the blood and cardiovascular system, including angina and palpitations, especially if from over straining, injury and shock. It can help calm many fears such as being touched, fear of death or just a very jumpy disposition. In addition, it can be used to aid in the recovery of stroke and coma.

The question is, will you now keep it in your pocket?!
